At Your Cervix
How to connect and view the portal inside of you
In this modern day, a woman’s cervix is often touched, examined, and viewed by someone other than herself. It is mainly health care providers or practitioners, like obstetricians and midwives, that are interacting with a woman’s cervix during routine health checks, pap smears, or cervical checks in childbirth.
But the cervix is so much more than a place of diagnosis or assessment that is examined by another person. It is a portal for creation that can be sensed, felt, and gazed upon by a woman herself.
At Your Cervix is a class dedicated to the reclamation of the cervix as a holy space that is deserving of reverence and sacred touch.
To reclaim our cervixes, we must start with ourselves.
In this online learning circle, you will gain an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of your cervix from a wholistic perspective. Together, we will then explore the history of the speculum and cervical exams, both within and outside of the medical system as to better understand the foundation of this practice before reclaiming it for ourselves.
From this history, you will then learn how to do your own cervical exam with your fingers and a speculum, as well as learn how to practice the art of cervical gazing. There will be tips and tricks shared so that you can customize this practice for your own body and leave the class ready for your journey of self exploration.
Please note that this class will not involve using a speculum or engaging in a cervical exam or gazing while participating. Instead it will focus on all the steps and tools needed for this practice so that you can acquire what you need outside of the circle. The recording will be available for you to review and re-watch for when you are ready to do your cervical exam and gazing on your own time.
What are the reasons for looking at your cervix?
Looking at your own cervix can be an incredibly beautiful and enlightening experience. The cervix is a deeply intelligent and sacred part of our female body that has the ability to bring a sense of awe and magic.
The cervix is part of the uterus and the womb. Connecting with the cervix and gazing upon it is a wonderful way to connect with your womb.
Having the skill and knowledge about how to use a speculum on your own body can come in handy when/if you do engage in the medical system. If you ever need to receive a health check or pap smear, you can insert your own speculum and practitioners are not allowed to say no.
The cervix changes throughout the menstrual cycle in relationship to rising and descending fertility cues. Observing these changes is one of the biomarkers used in some fertility awareness methods to either prevent or encourage pregnancy. Learning how to track these changes in your cervix can support your our cycle tracking practice.
It can be a helpful way of assessing the health of your cervix. By observing the face of your cervix, you can begin to understand what is your baseline normal and track the changes throughout your cycle, pregnancy, or postpartum.
Building a relationship with your cervix before childbirth is a powerful step to learn how to attune to its changes. Therefore, when in labor, you can harness this connection as dilation and effacement occur and your baby moves through your cervix.
We will gather online
